A 25-year Memphis packaging equipment supplier moved off Magento without losing a single ranking page

Overview

Our client is a 25-year packaging equipment supplier based in Memphis whose Magento 2 store had grown slow and expensive to maintain. Over 14 weeks we audited every integration, rebuilt their pricing-tier logic for Shopify, and migrated the catalog, order history and customer accounts — then cut over in a four-hour overnight window.

Twenty-five years of SKUs, service contracts and customer accounts don't migrate cleanly. Part of the catalog carried pricing tiers set by sales reps who'd long since left, and order history had to map onto Shopify's model without losing the service-contract renewal dates the business runs on. We rebuilt the custom quoting and contract-renewal logic that used to live in a Magento module as a Shopify app on metafields, then ran the new store against a mirrored copy of production data for three weeks before cutover. The cutover night was the easy part — reconciling the data and rebuilding that logic before it was the real project.

What this covered

  • 6,200 legacy URLs redirected with 301s, no ranking pages lost
  • Organic traffic within 2% of pre-migration levels 90 days after launch
  • A 14-week migration — building the Shopify theme and pricing-tier logic alongside the still-live Magento store — ending in a four-hour overnight cutover with zero missed orders
  • Every third-party Magento extension audited first — the ones with a Shopify equivalent were swapped, the two without one were rebuilt as a small custom app
  • Customer accounts migrated with password hashes intact, so no one had to reset a password after cutover
  • A rollback plan rehearsed in staging that, in the end, launch night never needed
